Sema Drinks CO. is theoldest distillery in Northern Cyprus which was established in 1975. The company was started off with distilling Brandy.

After the Cyprus Peace Mission in 1974, Selim Suren (The founder of Sema CO.) noticed the gap in the market for such distillery to produce the local brandy that the Cypriots were used to drink. From this, the idea of producing Brandy began, and in 1975 Selim Suren was flavoring and bottling Brandy for the Turkish Cypriots.

The first chemist of the company was a retired chemist
(specialist on alcholic beverages) from England. The Brandy was named after him as "Old John, Cyprus Brandy".

By 1977 the company had started importing Whisky, Vodka and Gin from Scotland and England. The imports were being bought in bulk and then bottled by SEMA CO.

In 1979 the SEMA Co. was also producing Raki, the traditional Turkish alcholic anacid flavoured drink. The factory building was beginning to be too tight for the growing Sema Company. The business than was moved to a new factory which was bigger and in a better location.

Producing Fruit Concentrates (Syrups), Liquors and fantasy alcholic beverages was started in 1982 and in 1990 started producing fruit juices and soft drinks.

Prsently (year 2001) SEMA has over 80 different drink products (alcholic and non-alcholic).
